FAIRYTALE BALLET
In this fun class, a magical make-believe component and theme will engage students by tapping into their creativity and stimulating their imagination.  Children will explore dance through the use of props such as wands, tutus, tiaras, crowns and capes.  Enchanting stories and fairy tales are used to inspire and encourage a love for dance.  Students are guided age appropriately through consistent structure and outlines to learn elementary ballet vocabulary and French ballet terms.  Lessons will strengthen coordination, develop poise, balance and flexibility and encourage a relationship to music.    Appropriate attire is a leotard, tights and ballet slippers.

MOMMY AND ME FAIRYTALE BALLET – NEW
Mommies and their baby ballerinas will whirl, twirl and explore ballet with tutus, tiaras, sparkling wands, imagery, musical instruments and props.  This class teaches basic toddler ballet by engaging and inspiring little dancers’ imaginations and creativity with magical themed fairy tales, stories and props.  The class focus is on movement, coordination, balance, rhythm and stretching.  Appropriate attire is a leotard, tights and ballet slippers.

COMEDY FU ACTING WORKSHOP
Bring fairytales to life with Comedy Fu’s professional training program for youth that want to take the stage.  Each session will work on a one act play that will allow the student to grow their performing skills in straight theater all the way to musical theater.  Each workshop session will work on the actor’s improvisational skills as well as acting and musical theater skills.  Comedy Fu provides a safe and fun environment where kids can explore their acting skills and build self-esteem.  Come and laugh like you have never laughed before!

DOG OBEDIENCE AND AGILITY 101
Have fun and learn new skills with your dog! In this class, dogs and their owners will practice all the basic commands such as sit, stay, down and come.  We will also work on walking nicely on a leash and eliminating unwanted behaviors such as barking and jumping.  Learn to develop your handling skills with a variety of leash techniques, hand signals and body movement. (Techniques and movements will be customized to suit handler and dogs’ physical abilities.)  Have fun challenging your dog with agility obstacles and drive control exercises.  This class is open to all breeds and dogs of all ages including vaccinated puppies. CANINE COMPANION TRAINING
Take your skills to the next level by preparing you and your dog to go anywhere together!  This class will review all basic commands, handling techniques and drive control exercises.  In addition, canine participants will learn how to meet and greet people with good manners and obedience and practice proper socialization skills with other dogs.  Dogs will be challenged with obstacles, equipment, sounds and more to help them desensitize for work in the real world.  There will also be a mock test for therapy dog team work.  Techniques and movements will be customized to suit handler and dogs’ physical abilities. This class is open to all breeds. Dogs and handlers should have basic obedience and communication established before attending this course. DRAWING AND PAINTING
This class allows artists of all abilities to pick a subject of their choice (florals, landscapes, seascapes, portraits etc.) and create a piece of artwork with personal attention from the instructor who has more than 25 years teaching experience.  Students will be taught the basics of composition, color selection and mixing, rendering techniques as well as proportion and perspective.  This class is limited in size to ensure that each student receives the instruction and attention they need to create their masterpiece! Students must provide their own paints, brushes and canvas.  A complete list of supplies will be given to you upon registration.

This new beginning fencing class is a great way for students eight to adult to learn basic fencing skills.  As a modern sport, fencing encourages quick thinking, creative problem-solving, coordination and agility development.  Appropriate attire is athletic clothing such as a T-shirt, tennis shoes, and sweatpants, but no shorts please.  Equipment will be provided during the class.  Each participant must have a non-competitive or competitive membership with USA Fencing.  Students may sign up for their membership with USA Fencing online at www.usfencing.org or with the instructors help on the first day of class.

PRE-COMPETITIVE FENCING
This class is for intermediate fencers ages eight to adult and is designed to develop the technical and physical skills necessary to succeed to be a future competitive fencer.  Fencers must have their own uniform consisting of a mask, glove, jacket, plastron, knickers and socks.  Fencers also need to bring their own electric equipment: lame, body cord and electric weapon for electric bouting. (During the class, electric equipment rental will be available for $10 per day or $40 per month while supplies last.)  Class time includes bouting with pre-competitive or competitive fencers along with an added bonus of one lesson* (normally one lesson from the head coach or one lesson from one of the club assistant coaches during the class hours). *Lesson time will be scheduled by the instructor or the club manager. Each participant must have a non-competitive or competitive membership with USA Fencing. COMPETITIVE FENCING
This program is designed for fencers who are competing at the local, regional and national level.  For those who are interested in possibly competing at the Summer National Championship, RYC, SYC, ROC, RJCC and local tournaments, this is the class for you.  Fencers may also join the Pre-Competitive class with the head coach’s approval.  Fencers need to bring their own weapons and suits that are required from USA Fencing Competition (Epee – epee mask,  two body cords, glove;  Foil – foil mask,  two mask cords, two body cords,  lame, glove).  Each participant is required to have a competitive membership with Summerlin Fencing Club via  www.usfencing.org/membership or to have a Summerlin Fencing Club head coach's approval. Fencing activities include: tactical drills, videotaping and observation, group feedback and bouting. Both Epee and Foil bouting will be on Thursday and Saturday and are subject to change.

Learn the short form style of an ancient Chinese exercise consisting of slow relaxed movements that provide physical exercise for the body, concentration for the mind, and meditation for the spirit.  Tai Chi improves overall fitness, balance, coordination and agility.  It has also been shown to lower blood pressure and heart rates, promote relaxation and release stress and tension.  Those who practice Tai Chi on a regular basis tend to have good posture, flexibility, improved range of motion and mental alertness, and sleep more soundly at night.  Students will also learn Chi Kung - breathing for vital energy.

MixxedFit® is a dance fitness program that is a mix of explosive dancing and boot camp toning.  Dance to your favorite songs on the radio with added boot camp-inspired exercises to make your workout more effective and challenging.  Get in shape by using your own body.  No equipment is needed.  The choreography is easy to follow and simple.  Students can focus on their workout instead of worrying about what dance step to do.  If you can do things like squats, jumping jacks, and booty-shaking, you will have a blast in class!

PILATES GROUP REFORMER CLASSES—“RE-FORM” YOUR BODY
Beginning Pilates: Learn about Pilates in this beginning level class.  You will be taught to operate your Balanced Body IQ Reformer safely, apply six basic principles of Pilates, understand the Pilates language and perform a group of beginning exercises that are the building blocks of an effective Pilates workout.  This class should be repeated until you feel comfortable moving on to the intermediate level.  
Intermediate Pilates:  This class expands your repertoire into a full body Pilates workout. Increase your vitality and strength and improve your flexibility, coordination, and balance.  Make this enjoyable workout an essential part of your weekly fitness maintenance.  The level of difficulty will be determined by the experience of the participants in each class.  (Prerequisite:  Introduction to Pilates)

Yoga literally means to “yoke together” mind, body and spirit. Teens learn how to do this in a four-week course under the guidance of a certified yoga instructor with a master’s in education from UNLV and bachelor’s degree in exercise kinesiology from Purdue. Bring a mat to class and prepare to develop strong minds and bodies.

FENCING FUN FOR KIDS
This program is designed for young fencers who are interested in learning Olympic Sports Fencing. All equipment is provided.  Students should wear athletic clothing (T-shirt, tennis shoes, sweatpants – no shorts).  Each participant must have a non-competitive membership with USA Fencing. Students may sign up for their USA Fencing membership online at www.usfencing.org or with the instructors help on the first day of class.

JIU-JITSU BEGINNING MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM – NEW
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport and self-defense system that is one of the most popular and fastest growing activities today. This art form emphasizes ground fighting techniques which involve various chokes and joint locks used to dominate and submit the attacker. Students can expect classes that will include a dynamic warm up, technique training and live sparring.  This program will expose the student to both the self-defense and competitive aspects of the sport. The exercise and physical fundamentals incorporated into the program are challenging and a great way for students to gain flexibility, balance, strength and self-confidence and self-esteem. We also understand the importance of fun and variety to maintain high interest and participation. Students may be required to make physical contact with other students during training exercises.  Must be seven or older to register, unless approved by instructor.

LITTLE LIONS CHILDREN’S BEGINNERS MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM
Our Little Lions class is a great way for children five to seven years of age to learn the ABCs of self-defense, gain anti-bullying skills and be introduced to the multi-cultural martial arts systems.  Studies have shown that during pre-school and early elementary school years, children are building eight fundamental skills that are essential to their growth and development. These skills include focus, honor, teamwork, control, memory, balance, discipline, fitness and coordination. The Little Lions program targets these skills, along with other disciplines of listening, respect and courtesy through a comprehensive training system that is specifically designed to generate maximum results. The exercise and physical fundamentals incorporated into the program are challenging and a great way for students to gain flexibility, balance, strength, self-confidence and self-esteem.  We also understand the importance of fun and variety to maintain high interest and participation. Any child who completes this program may have a developmental edge in their early childhood which can make the transition into adolescence much easier. Parents who are interested in getting a great workout and learning self-defense alongside their children are welcome to take the class for an additional fee of $20. MANDARIN CHINESE FOR KIDS

FAIRYTALE BALLET
In this fun class, a magical make-believe component and theme will engage students by tapping into their creativity and stimulating their imagination.  Children will explore dance through the use of props such as wands, tutus, tiaras, crowns and capes.  Enchanting stories and fairy tales are used to inspire and encourage a love for dance.  Students are guided age appropriately through consistent structure and outlines to learn elementary ballet vocabulary and French ballet terms.  Lessons will strengthen coordination, develop poise, balance and flexibility and encourage a relationship to music.    Appropriate attire is a leotard, tights and ballet slippers.
